Fiji Says Water Is Safe To Drink After FDA Recall

What Is Manganese?

Manganese is a chemical element that helps the body form connective tissue, but too much can cause health problems.

High levels of manganese can harm the nervous system, kidneys, and reproductive health. It can also cause manganism, a neurodegenerative disorder with symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease.

78,000 Cases of Bottled Water Have Been Recalled:

According to a Twitter post from Fiji Water on March 12, the affected bottles were sold nationwide through Amazon between February 1 and March 3.

The recalled water bottles were sold in 24 packs. Here are the details to identify them:

• Case UPC Code: 6 32565 00004 3
• Bottle UPC Code: 6 32565 00001 2

In a statement to KSNT news in Kansas, a spokesperson for Fiji said: "There is no health or safety risk posed from manganese or bacteria in the recalled lots of FIJI Water. Moreover, FIJI Water conducts regular testing to ensure consumers enjoy the soft, smooth taste of FIJI Water that they expect and love."

The FDA lowered the classification of this recall to Class III which means the product is "not likely to cause adverse health consequences."
