There have been a decent number of movies filmed in Minnesota. And it feels like movie filming in our state has ticked up again, especially in Duluth. But there's one town in particular that's not only known for its part in a famous movie, it's also the oldest town in Minnesota.

Movies Filmed in Minnesota

One of the most obvious movies to be filmed here is 'Purple Rain'. Of course a movie about Prince would be filmed here.

And so was 'Fargo', which is always super funny to me that they filmed the movie here but named it after a North Dakota town.

But another famous movie that we're missing is the one that was partially filmed in and set in Minnesota's oldest town.

Minnesota's Oldest Town

Did you know that our oldest town is Wabasha, in southeast Minnesota along the Mississippi River? It makes sense that it's our oldest town because the Mississippi would have made it super easy for trade and to get around.

Now do you know which movie I'm talking about? It's 'Grumpy Old Men'!

The classic was partially set in Wabasha but not all of the movie was filmed in town. Actually, CBS writes that "very little of the film was shot there" despite the fact that that's where the characters lived.

Regardless of how much was filmed in town, the movie still heavily features Wabasha and therefore the town celebrates every year. This past February, the 31st annual Grumpy Old Men Festival took place.

Everyone shows up in their best flannel ready to eat hotdish and drink beer. There are plenty of other activities throughout the weekend, too.
