Another airline just said they are packing up their pretzels and flying away from Minnesota later this year, grounding a nonstop route and forcing Minnesotans heading to this European destination to get creative.

It wasn't all that long ago that this major international airline just *added* non-stop service to Minnesota. Then, it announced last fall that it would be leaving the Land of 10,000 Lakes this spring. And now, the airline that was going to offer similar service on that same route said it will soon be ending that non-stop flight as well.

You can fly nonstop to A LOT of different places directly from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) without having to catch a connecting flight elsewhere. In fact, the airport says airlines at MSP served 163 nonstop destinations from the North Star State in 2023, up from 156 destinations in 2023 and 145 destinations in 2022.

But there will soon be one less nonstop destination available. Luthansa Airlines announced last fall that it was ending its nonstop flights from MSP to Frankfurt, Germany (FRA), this April-- less than a year after it started back in June of 2024. When it made that announcement, Luthansa said you would still be able to fly direct from Minnesota to Germany, but on another airline.

As The Points Guy previously said, Lufthansa was set to 'hand the route over to its low-cost subsidiary Discover Airlines for the foreseeable future,' with those routes set to take flight from Minnesota starting on May 2nd, 2025.

But now, though, Kyle Potter from Thrifty Traveler noted on his X (formerly Twitter) page that Discover is now ending THOSE nonstop flights from MSP to Frankfurt as well. Discover will suspend service from Minnesota for the fall/winter season, ending nonstop flights from MSP to FRA after October 24th, 2025.

However, Potter also noted that Discover hopes to resume that service in late March 2026. So, if you want to travel nonstop from the Twin Cities to Frankfurt, it looks like you'll have to wait until next spring.
