I have to admit, I was a bit shocked when I saw that Illinois was named the most hated state in the entire country. I would have guessed Wisconsin would have been higher solely because of Packer's fans (zing), but they were actually one of the least hated states.

I've only been to Illinois a handful of times and each time was to go to Chicago. I didn't hate it, but I definitely didn't love it. But, to be fair, I'm a small town girl, so it's not Chicago's fault.

So, who's hating on Illinois? Apparently everyone. People that live there included, or maybe I should say especially.

The results were determined by Zippia who looked at the percentage of residents who say the state is the “worst possible state to live in, the states with the biggest decrease in population, and nationwide, the number of other states who say they hate a state the most. Yowzers, what's going on over there Illinois?

I started searching why do people hate Illinois so much?? The top answers: weather (I can relate), high taxes on everything, traffic, and no mountains or oceans.

The reason it tops Zippia's list:

Illinois is one of the fastest shrinking states in the nation. Overall, in recent years the state saw a .54% decrease in population. With that number, perhaps it isn’t too surprising that 1-in-4 Illinoisans say their state is the absolute worst place to live. Yikes. - Zippia.
