McDonald’s Is Now Extending Popular Menu Item in Minnesota
McDonald's first brought back this favorite menu item here in Minnesota and across the country earlier this summer, and now it'll be staying for a while longer.
It was back in May that several different media outlets reported that McDonald's was set to bring back something consumers here in Minnesota and across the country were very excited about-- something that was kind of a throwback to a promotion the company first rolled out back in 2002.
When McDonald's does something like changing its menu, it's big news, especially seeing as it is one of the biggest restaurant chains around. This Visual Capitalist story says McDonald's has 13,444 locations in the U.S., second only to Starbucks and Subway.

Here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, you're never very far from a McDonald's location, either. While the McDonald's site doesn't say just how many locations it has here in the Bold North, 24/7 Wall Street says the number is close to 226!
McDonald's doesn't just have a lot of locations, but also a lot of employees. When I was in high school, my first real job (outside of my delivering newspapers on my paper route-- is that even a THING anymore?) was working at McDonald's. And, I wasn't alone, this Yahoo News story says that 1 in 8 Americans (about 13.7%) have worked for, or are currently working at the Golden Arches!
So what's going on at the McDonald's that has Minnesotans excited? Well, we found out back in May via CNBC that the chain was bringing back its popular $5 Meal Deal for a limited time this summer. They DID just that starting back on June 25th, and planned to keep it around for about a month.
But it has been such a hit, that now word is that McDonald's is keeping it around even longer. This CNBC story quoted a memo that says that McDonald's brass realized how valuable the promotion has been:
'Our message is resonating with our millions of customers,' CNBC said Myra Doria, national field president, and Tariq Hassan, U.S. chief marketing and customer experience officer, wrote in the memo. 'When our customers are ordering the $5 Meal Deal, they aren’t visiting the competition, and early performance shows this deal is meeting the objective of driving guests back to our restaurants.'
Meanwhile, Yahoo! Finance says while McDonald's itself hasn't officially commented, the promotion is now likely set to continue throughout the summer. And it says the success McDonald's is having might cause other fast-food chains to offer similar promotions, as well.
