After opting out of his contract following his first year in Minnesota, it looks like Carlos Correa is coming back to the Twins on a longer-term deal.

The shortstop joined the team for the 2022 season after signing a three-year, $105.3 million deal that included opt-out clauses at the end of each year. He, obviously, took advantage of that clause to opt out after his first year with the team.

Following a disappointing Twins season overall, fans weren't too surprised to see Correa look for greener pastures. That search for greener pastures took him on a long and winding ride back to Minnesota.

After flexing his opt-out muscle in the offseason, Correa had agreed to a 13-year, $350 million deal with the San Francisco Giants that would have been the biggest for a shortstop in the league's history. The deal later fell through due to some health concerns reportedly related to an injury he suffered in 2014.

The New York Mets then jumped on Correa, offering him a slightly smaller deal, weighing in at 12 years and $315 million. Things then stalled out in finalizing the deal as the team had similar concerns related to the way his 2014 leg injury was surgically repaired.

With the situation in limbo, the Twins re-entered the conversation in a serious way, exploring a new deal with the shortstop. Steam was building to start the week about the team and their former shortstop being able to work something out in the coming days, and then it was announced Tuesday morning that a deal was being finalized.

That deal, another step down from the massive offering from the Giants, is still quite sizable. The report from Jeff Passan fo ESPN says that the team is offering a 6-year, $200 million contract that could max out at $270 million. The deal, of course, is pending a physical. The exact same thing that hung up the first two deals.

With two other teams getting cold feet over his physical, it makes you wonder what they found this time around that the Twins didn't spot during the physical you'd assume they performed before he joined the team in 2022 - unless he aggravated something during the season.

The new offering from the Twins falls short of their original proposed contract of a 10-year, $285 million deal.

While details around what is concerning teams related to Correa's health remain somewhat unclear, we'll see if the Twins decide these concerns are unwarranted and the deal is completed to bring Correa back after a bit of a carousel offseason for the shortstop.
