As we move into a new month, you can definitely tell that the seasons are changing and summer will be here shortly. One of the sure signs of the approaching summer season is the ramp up by local transportation agencies as they get ready for the summer road construction season.

Some of the bigger projects in our area involve the ongoing multi year Twin Ports Interchange (Can of Worms) and the Blatnik Bridge.  It's the latter that has the Minnesota Department of Transportation alerting drivers to some upcoming changes.

According to details shared by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, drivers can anticipate lane closures on the Blatnik Bridge - starting Monday, April 4 and running through Thursday, April 7.  These temporary lane closures will be in effect during the daytime hours of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each of the scheduled days.

The temporary lane closures will allow work crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to get things ready for an upcoming summer maintenance project on the Blatnik Bridge.  Specifically, the road construction crews will be marking locations with paint on the bridge for later repairs this summer.

MNDOT crews don't anticipate the temporary lane closures lasting longer than the scheduled timetable.  However, like all outdoor road construction projects, the work is related to the weather.  Inclement weather has the potential to push dates back.  Additionally, any unforeseen situations that may arise during the work could also lead to potential extensions for the lane closures.

The maintenance  being performed on the Blatnik Bridge is semi-routine in nature.  It's generally related to the eventual replacement that's planned for the structure in the next decade or so.
