Fresh off of receiving her first ever WNBA MVP award on Thursday night, Lynx Forward, Maya Moore knew that she had more work to do. She led the way with a game high 24 points and a stellar, highlight alley oop from teammate Lindsay Whalen as the Minnesota Lynx defeated the San Antonio Silver Stars 88-84 in the first round opener at the Target Center.

Lindsay Whalen finished with 10 points and 11 while Seimone Augustus finished with 16 points. Kayla McBride led the Silver Stars with 21 points and Becky Hammon scored 17.

Most of the game seemed in hand for the Lynx until San Antonio went on a 18-2 run to go ahead 73-72 with a little over four minutes to play. The Lynx regained the lead for good thanks to the 6 points scored by Seimone Augustus in the final 2 minutes to seal game one of this best of 3 series.

Game 2 will be on Saturday in San Antonio. The Lynx have beat the Stars 18 times in the last 21 meetings. Governor Mark Dayton and Minnesota Vikings, Linebacker, Chad Greenway were in attendance amongst the 8,523 announced at game time.
