It is certainly not unknown to us but to those outside of the midwest, it might be! The North Shore was just named one of the best unknown places in the entire country.

This isn't the first time the North Shore and its accompanying sights have topped a list like this. Back in 2021, Split Rock Lighthouse was named one of the best campsites in the country. The list named the top ten campsites and Split Rock made the top five!

A few years earlier, the North Shore's Highway 61 was named one of the best scenic drives in the country. If you've ever driven this scenic highway, you know that this title is well-deserved. It came in at number two out of sixty-five, which is even more impressive.

Last but not least, yet another title was bestowed upon the North Shore recently. In 2018, it was named the best place to road trip in Minnesota. Is there even a competition there? I am sorry to the rest of the state but there isn't.

Now, there is another title the North Shore can add to its long list of accomplishments. This time around, the North Shore was named one of the best unknown places in the country. The study was done by an online travel website and listed thirty-one places in total.

Not that we need an explanation, but the reason the North Shore was chosen comes down to all there is to do while making the scenic drive. The website also states the obvious: the drive is perfect if you love the outdoors.

The website also says that the drive itself is one of the best in the country, which helped the North Shore's case as well. Places like Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior and the Lutsen Resort also got honorable mentions as places to stay within any price range in the area.

Specific parts of the North Shore also got honorable mentions, like Gooseberry Falls State Park and the hiking trails at Tettegouche State Park. You know that you have hit the goldmine when places like Split Rock aren't even mentioned, because there's too many amazing and beautiful places along the North Shore.

I love that the North Shore is getting some love! Any time anyone comes to visit me and I take them up the North Shore, they are absolutely blown away. While it is well known within Minnesota and Wisconsin, it probably isn't as well known to states outside of the midwest.

So what is the North Shore up against? Sedona, Arizona made the cut for its picturesque landscape. I have been there and it is pretty cool. Devil's Tower in Wyoming also made the list, another place I have been and loved. Hopefully these places aren't too "unknown" much longer.
