The Green Bay Packers will face the San Francisco 49ers one defensive player short as they open the regular season.

The NFL announced that outside linebacker Erik Walden will be suspended without pay for the 2012 season opener on September 9 after violating the league's personal conduct policy. This violation stems from a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct charge after a dispute with his girlfriend in November of 2011.

Walden plead no contest in the case, avoiding felony charges in the plea agreement. He will do 50 hours of community service and be under close watch for any future incidents.

The league will allow Walden to participate in preseason games and practices, but will enforce a suspension that will keep him out of the season opener for the Packers.
