The City of Duluth has closed a handful of roadways due to complications from Monday's rain and wind.

In the message from city officials, the following closures were detailed:

  • Brighton Beach has been closed to traffic and pedestrians and will remain closed until further notice.
  • A portion of Canal Park Drive due to standing water. The City has also closed Buchanan and Morse Street for precautionary purposes.

City officials are also asking the public to stay away from the area of the Park Point Beach House and recreation area due to standing water.

These closures will remain in effect until conditions improve, and officials will offer updates or any additional closures as necessary.

Elevated lake levels, heavy rain, and waves caused by the strong wind associated with the storm system moving through the area is leading to the water that has closed these areas. These same conditions have led to the National Weather Service issuing a Coastal Flood Advisory, with expected flooding along shoreline areas and possible shoreline erosion. This advisory is in effect until 10 pm Monday night.
