The Metrodome in Minneapolis will start to get it's new roof installed next week.  One big hurdle was cleared today when the first insurance check was delivered to the Metropolitan Sports Commission, who claims the roof will be done in time for the first Vikings pre-season game in August.

The stadium commission has received its first insurance payment for the battered Metrodome roof, clearing the way for work to begin on installing the new roof next week.

The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission said Thursday morning that it will receive a total of $22.7 million from its insurer, Affiliated FM, for damage done to the roof during the December 12 blizzard.

Commission Chair Ted Mondale said they've already received a first payment of $10 million.

New fiberglass panels will begin arriving at the Dome next Thursday, with installation work scheduled to begin the following day.

Mondale said he was confident that the job can be finished in time for the Minnesota Vikings' preseason schedule in August.
