UPDATE: A report that Rodgers is unhappy with the Packers and doesn't want to return to the team has surfaced, adding to the drama around this situation. More on that news here.

ORGINAL STORY:

As the NFL Draft is set to kick off tonight, the big talking point of the day has shifted from who will be picked to a rumored deal that was proposed by the San Francisco 49ers to trade with the Green Bay Packers for Aaron Rodgers.

While he has nothing to do with either team, Vikings play-by-play guy Paul Allen announced some "steam" during his daily radio show that a reliable source told him the 49ers proposed a hefty deal with the Packers to land Aaron Rodgers in the Bay Area.

The deal, as detailed by Bill Michaels on Twitter, would include San Francisco's #3 overall pick in the draft tonight, along with "other picks and a number of players" including the 49ers current quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. The report, Paul Allen went on to explain, was turned down by Green Bay.

Allen insists his source is reputable and defended the news later in the day on The FAN, rebutting a denial of this news even being true by Packers reporter Rob Demovsky.

While Allen claims the news is true and Demovsky vehemently denies this news, Bill Michaels did note in his tweet about Allen's news that others have confirmed that this offer was indeed floated by San Francisco.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero shared other news that the 49ers did reach out to the Packers on Wednesday about working a deal for Rodgers, but no formal offer was made and his sources say the Packers would absolutely not trade Rodgers.

This is the most recent in a string of suggestions a divorce between Rodgers and the Packers is looming. After Green Bay drafted Jordan Love with their first round pick last year, the speculation really started to fly. Since then, there have been other things pundits have pointed to that suggest Rodgers will not finish his NFL career in Green Bay. Some of those items include frustrations Rodgers allegedly has with the team/coaching staff, including the controversial decision to kick a field goal in the NFC Championship game in which they lost to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While the Packers continue to insist Rodgers is their guy, we'll see what happens.
