Sturgis Will Allow Open Alcohol Containers For 81st Rally
2021 will mark the 81st year of the iconic Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Bikers from all over the world roll into the South Dakota town to hang out, listen to music, drool over and show off motorcycles, and of course drink. Until this year though, the Sturgis City Council did not allow open alcoholic containers on city streets.
It seems incredibly odd to me that has never been allowed. The police presence in Sturgis is always massive and as long as people are being responsible, why shouldn't they be able to have a beer on the street? You would think it would be more like the Vegas or Florida Keys vibe with booze, well now it is, at least for ten days.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally runs from Friday, August 6th-Sunday, August 15th and during those days, you can have a beer on the street. From what I have heard, the city council is hoping it will keep people out of the bars causing less crowding. That makes sense, but being that less than normal numbers attended last year, I would assume it's going to be crazy crowded no matter what.
If you are going to attend this year, I wish you the best time, and it should be with cocktails on Main Street while you walk around. Remember to not rev those pipes and put your feet down at stop signs. If you can't go but want to see what you're missing, you can check out several live stream cameras of the action HERE.
