Superior Schools Offer Vaping Cessation Classes Instead Of Suspension

Vaping is an epidemic at the Superior Senior High School.  Commonly-accepted statistics relate that roughly half of the high school students in Douglas County are vaping on a regular basis - and that number is probably lower than the reality.  A new program instituted at Superior Senior High School offers students caught vaping on school grounds an option towards quitting rather than suspension.

Starting in March, Superior will be one the schools at the forefront of this program.  Last year, Superior was one of two schools in Wisconsin and one of ten in the country to offer the American Lung Association's Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco and Health (INDEPTH) program.  This continuation allows a student the ability to partake in the program rather than missing school for their first offense.  Students can also self-enroll into the program in an effort to thwart their addiction.

Experts agree that peer pressure can work just as successfully in reverse; the same peer pressure that teens may feel that makes them start using vaping (or other products) can also help in its cessation.  Students who are trying to quit vaping (or other products) can be each others role models and can encourage and cheer on their friends.
