Social media exploded today with people doing the Broom Challenge, where brooms stand on their own today due to the tilt of earth.  Sounds cool, but the reason behind it is a hoax.

This Broom Challenge business actually originated in 2012 and it was debunked then too.  It's not that you can't get your broom to stand on its own, it's just that it has nothing to do with the tilt of the earth.  You can get a good broom to stand on its own on February 10, July 4, October 31 and every other day of the year.

The reason brooms stand on their own is based on the design of an effective broom.  When placed the right way, the bristles will keep the broom standing upright.  The reason it seems to blow up social media every once in awhile is that people forget about it.  On a random, normal day, how many people decide to try to make their broom stand up?

I'm sure this will come back in a few years and it was fun for today, but the earth's tilt hasn't changed, as the video below explains.
