Jason Newsted opened up about his painkiller addiction in the '90s and 2000s during a new interview ahead of his tour with The Chophouse Band.

The bassist called the 1988 LP "the largest-selling garage duo album of all time."

Joining Metallica was a dream come true for Newsted, but the shadows of grief loomed large in those early days.

Jason Newsted dives deep into this year's tour with the Chophouse Band and how a friendship with Blackberry Smoke and a battle with throat cancer led to it.

"Don’t tell me I’m not committed," the bassist said.

The former Metallica bassist "underwent a procedure for throat cancer" in 2025, and he says that he's now living a more "clear-headed" lifestyle.

Black Label Society, Jason Newsted and Slayer all had big tour announcements this past week.

Some of these rockers left on their own and others were fired but their departures still shocked the rest of the world regardless.
