The Minnesota Vikings Win Season Opener – Blowout St. Louis Rams 34 – 6 [PHOTOS]

The Minnesota Vikings, under new head coach Mike Zimmer, traveled to St. Louis for the NFL regular season opener and proceeded to blowout the Rams 34 - 6.

The Vikings started the game on offence, so we didn't have to wait long to see if Adrian Peterson's prediction that he would score on his first touch of the season would come true, it didn't, but the Vikings got a FG from that first drive and went on to score 10 more points in the first half while holding the Rams, under backup QB Shaun Hill, to no points.

Hill would not return in the second half, instead, the Rams offence was led by Austin Davis, he went 16 for 23 for 192 yards, but couldn't lead the Rams offense into the end zone all afternoon, in the end they had to settle for two Greg Zuerlein FGs.

The Vikings defense shined today with two interceptions, one returned 81-yards by Harrison Smith for a TD, the other from Josh Robinson. The defense also sacked Ram's QBs five times, including a hit from Anthony Barr that caused the Smith pick six.

Cordarrelle Patterson finished the day as the star on the offensive side of the ball, with one TD and 102-yards, Adrian Peterson carried the ball 21 times for 75-yards and Greg Jennings caught the ball 6 times for 58-yards and one TD. Matt Cassel was productive, completing 17 of 25 passes for 170 yards while avoiding turnovers.

The Vikings also won on the road, which they haven't done since December 23rd, 2012 when they beat the Houston Texans. The Vikings open the regular season at home with Belichick, Brady and the Patriots next Sunday at noon.
