The Duluth Heritage Sports Center was the place to be on Thursday night.

Mini-mites. Squirts. Girl’s varsity and boy’s varsity hockey games.

Duluth East hosted Grand Rapids and it was a great hockey environment for families of all ages.

The Duluth East band, cheerleaders, mascot all played a part in the special event that was heard on ESPN560 WEBC and My 9 TV.

Special for many reasons.

The Duluth Northern Stars held senior day for their eight senior girl’s hockey players.

The game was scoreless after the first period, but the Northern Stars went on to beat Superior 5-0.

And in the boy’s varsity game, again a scoreless first period.  Avery Peterson scored for Grand Rapids, to give them a 1-0 lead.  About: 22 seconds later Ryan Lundgren scored for Duluth East to tie the game at 1-1 after two periods.

The game winner came from Miers Moore in the third period as the ‘Hounds topped Grand Rapids 2-1 in a non-conference game.  The Moore goal came on a power-play chance.

Duluth East will host Eden Prairie on Saturday and the Thunderhawks will host C-E-C on Tuesday of next week. They are now 9-4 on the year. Grand Rapids will also host Hockey Day Minnesota next week as well, on January 19th.
