Try These Festive Cocktails At Your Christmas Party

Admittedly, my wonderful wife is better at entertaining than me, and always has at least one special cocktail for just about any celebration.  I thought I would share a few that are easy to make for Christmas celebrating, yet can really impress your guests.

CANDY CANE CHRISTMAS MARTINIS

If you like peppermint, you'll like this one. Pour some simple syrup on a plate and coat the rim of the glass, then with crushed candy canes in a dish, dip the rim of it in that.  Next, combine 1 cup of half and half, 12 ounces of cream soda, 4 teaspoons of simple syrup, and a few drops of peppermint oil.  Stir it all together, yes, you're going to stir and not shake this martini, and then pour it into the coated glasses.  It's super easy and super tasty.

CHRISTMAS MIMOSA

We're big fans of Mimosas even when it's not Christmas, and while there are several versions for the holiday, this is our favorite.  You just need two ounces of cranberry juice, two ounces of champagne, a splash of orange liqueur, a sprig of rosemary, and a couple of cranberries.  You can and probably should use sugared cranberries for this, but I prefer fresh regular ones as I like the tart taste.  This one is pretty easy to scale up and make a pitcher of too, and you might want to do that as they go down fast.

GINGERBREAD WHITE RUSSIAN

For this one, you basically make a White Russian like you normally would but add gingerbread flavored syrup.  It's as much ice in a glass as you prefer, 2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of coffee liqueur, a splash of heavy cream, and 1 or so ounces of gingerbread syrup.  If your guests like gingerbread, they will love this.

CHRISTMAS MANHATTAN COCKTAIL

There are variations on this like the others, but I keep it simple.  It's essentially a normal Manhattan but with some Maraschino Cherries.  I prefer the Filthy Red Maraschino Cherries, and while a little spendy, they taste great.  For this you'll need 2 ounces of rye whiskey, a half ounce of vermouth, and a dash of bitters stirred together and poured over ice.  You can either drop a cherry in or get all fancy and put a couple on a large toothpick across the top of the glass.  This one is my favorite as it's such a classic whiskey cocktail.
