While a season-ending injury is never a good thing; it is particularly bad news when a wide receiver goes down on a Vikings squad in need of offensive weapons.

During a difficult catch attempt this weekend in Mankato, rookie wideout Greg Childs landed awkwardly and tore both of his patellar tendons. The injury to his knees will sideline Childs through the entire 2012 campaign and possibly into the 2013 season as well.

Childs suffered the same injury in his right knee during his junior year at Arkansas.

The Vikings were hoping to rely on Childs to compliment Percy Harvin in the passing game during Jerome Simpson's early-season suspension. The team will now look for someone else on the roster to step up as a downfield threat for Christian Ponder to look for.

UPDATE

The Vikings have waived Greg Childs and move up rookie wide receiver A.J. Love to fill his spot on the roster. Love was an undrafted free agent from the University of South Florida.
