Vikings Special Teams Coordinator Marwan Maalouf is Out
The off season changes have already started with the Minnesota Vikings after a disappointing season.
Coach Mike Zimmer addressed the media today and said the Special Teams Coordinator Marwan Maalouf will not return next season. Zimmer said, "His contract was up, and I told him I wasn't renewing him."
The special teams have been a sore spot for the Vikings this year, with kicker Dan Bailey making a career-low 68.2% of his field-goal attempts and only 86% of his extra-point attempts.
Even kick returns have been an issue, with only 4.3 yards per attempt, the Vikings finished last in the NFL on punt returns and tied for 16th on kickoff returns with 21.9 yards per attempt.
Maalouf has spent 16 years in the NFL with Indianapolis, Miami, Baltimore, and Cleveland before joining the Vikings before the 2019 season. Longtime special teams assistant Ryan Ficken will remain on staff.
