WATCH: Freezing Rain Leads To ‘Ice Window’ On North Shore Vehicle

As the National Weather Service office in Duluth has been warning, the storm system moving through our region Tuesday has the potential to bring a mixed bag of gross weather that includes freezing rain.

In their early Tuesday morning update, the Duluth NWS office shared that there is a potential of a glazing of ice from Moose Lake all the way up to the Canadian Border, with areas like Duluth and Two Harbors in line to see up to a quarter of an inch of ice before precipitation changes to all snow in the later parts of this week's system.

The freezing rain, along with some snow on top of it will make for potentially dangerous walking and driving conditions, so be careful as you're out and about Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Luckily the Twin Ports area isn't expected to see more than maybe 3-4 inches of snow, but areas of the North Shore, from Silver Bay up to Grand Portage could see 8+ inches of snow, with Grand Marais and Grand Portage having the chance to see much more than that - up to 18 inches of snow!

As this system moved into the area, parts of the Northland have been getting that coating of ice the National Weather Service warned about - including in Silver Bay, where an interesting video was captured.

If you've ever experienced freezing rain before, you know just how much of a pain it can be sometimes to get that ice off your windshield and car windows. In the case of this vehicle in Silver Bay, removing some of the ice wasn't too hard to do.

The video in question, shared by the Duluth National Weather Service Facebook Page, shows a person rolling down their driver's side window, only to reveal a "window of ice". The vehicle's driver, Katie Foshay, goes on to push the "ice window" to show how solid it was, before pushing it hard enough to break it.

Wild! Like the caption says, it isn't every day you have ice windows on your car. Thankfully!

Be safe out there as we deal with this bout of winter weather. We look to warm up slightly at the end of the week, heading to near 40 degrees in the Twin Ports on Thursday and Friday. As of right now, it looks like this weekend will stay cool, however. While we got spoiled last weekend with some 50+ degree temperatures, this weekend looks to remain in the low to mid 30s in the Duluth-Superior area.

Unfortunately, next week doesn't look much warmer. The final days of March 2022 currently look like we will see temperatures in the Twin Ports near 30 degrees. Here's hoping that turning the calendar to April will bring some more consistent warmer temperatures!
