Young CB Casey Hayward’s Return Could Get Packers Picks
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Cornerback Casey Hayward has been making some impressive plays for the Green Bay Packers in offseason workouts.
They hope it's a sign of things to come when the season starts in a few months.
Hayward led NFL rookies in 2012 with a team-high six interceptions. But he missed all but three games last year because of a hamstring injury and didn't have a pick.
He has returned to a Packers secondary that also added rookie safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the first round of the draft. Micah Hyde was a promising rookie corner last season who is getting time at safety this offseason.
Coach Mike McCarthy is looking for defensive improvement. He has simplified the scheme a little in the offseason, and hopes to reduce injuries.
