Trades were abundant in the first night of the 2012 NFL Draft, with the Indianapolis Colts being the only team in the first 7 pick positions to actually pick in their original position. Among the biggest jumps of the night, the Dallas Cowboys went from 14 to 6, trading up with St. Louis to grab Morris Claiborne. How did the Packers and Vikings do in the first round?

The Vikings traded down one spot with the Cleveland Browns to earn some extra late-round picks, and still get their guy Matt Kalil at #4. The move added one pick in the fourth, fifth, and seventh round to the number four overall pick they used to get Kalil.

In a trade with the Baltimore Ravens, the Vikings gave up pick 35 and 98 to get a second first round pick at number 29. Minnesota used this pick to boost their defense with Notre Dame strong safety Harrison Smith.

The Packers, who picked at number 28 overall in the first round, picked up USC linebacker Nick Perry to add to the already strong linebacker core that includes Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk.

The Draft picks up again tonight in the second round, where the Vikings have no picks after trading with Baltimore. The Packers have the 27th pick in round 2 (59 overall) and many speculate they will take another defensive player to help what was a less than impressive defense last season.
