Neil Lutsky a professor at Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota is lucky to be alive today thanks to two quick-thinking students who happened to be at the right place at the right time. Average citizens come to the rescue on a daily basis thanks to some basic training that they pursued on their own or from a job and these two guys can thank their job for knowing what to do.

Lutsky was riding his bike with a group of people last month when he suddenly lost consciousness and fell off his bike and stopped breathing. One of the other riders happened to be Hunter Conrad a senior at Bethlehem Academy, and Luke Sargent who is a senior at St. Olaf College happened to be driving by in his truck looking for a hunting spot and stopped when he saw Lutsky laying in the road.

Both students used their lifeguard training and performed CPR on Lutsky until paramedics arrived on the scene. Both students were awarded the Rice County Sheriff’s Office’s Citizens Life Saving Award, last Friday. According to to Bring Me The News Lutsky said:

Being willing to stop and put your training into action and with little sign, it was doing anything … you’ve really touched many lives and my life in a way that’s difficult to fathom.

Everyone should be trained in CPR  this story is a perfect example of how average people saved someone's life. Many classes are offered through The Red Cross in Duluth either online or in person. First Aid classes are also available which can give you peace of mind in case of an emergency.
