Another Week, Another Minnesota Viking Wins Player Of The Week Honors
In the Vikings opener against the Tennessee Titans, LB Eric Kendricks wound up winning the NFC Defensive Player Of The Week award. I said at the time that it would be surprising if another defensive award went to the Vikings in week 2 since they were facing Aaron Rodgers. While the defense played well, it turns out I was right. What I didn't predict was that an award would to go a Vikings offensive player.
The Vikings have announced that wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the NFL with 182 receiving yards on nine receptions (both career highs) in Minnesota’s 17-14 victory over the Packers.
After two weeks, Diggs leads the NFL with 285 receiving yards on 16 catches, becoming just the third Viking with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games in Weeks One and Two and the first since Cris Carter in 1997 to accomplish the feat. Only one receiver in franchise history has produced more receiving yards in the first two games of a season than Diggs (Gene Washington, 324 in 1969).
Only Randy Moss has had more receiving yards in a game against against the Packers.
This week will be a tough one for both the Vikings offense and the defense as they head east to face the Carolina Panthers, the reigning NFC Conference Champion. The key will be avoiding turnovers and finding a way to get a pass rush past the best offensive line in the league.
