The Bayfield County Health Department and Red Cliff Tribe have organized free COVID-19 testing events. These will be drive thru tests, and the first begins today. They encourage anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to get tested. Officials say they have the capacity to test 1,000 people over the course of three events.

The first drive thru test begins June 11th at 11am at Legendary Waters Resort & Casino parking lot located at 37600 Onigamiing Drive in Bayfield.  You can get tested between the hours of 11am and 7pm. For questions on this testing site, you can contact the Red Cliff Community Health Nurse at 715-779-3707.

The next drive thru testing event will be in the Drummond area on Wednesday, June 17th from 11am-7pm. Tests will be administered at the Drummond Civic Center at 52540 Front Avenue in Drummond.

Iron River is the location of the third testing event. That will take place on June 18th from 11am-7pm at the Iron River Community Center, 8275 E. Mill Street, Iron River. Further information or questions on the Drummond and Iron River testing sites can be answered by contacting the Bayfield County Health Department at  715-373-6109.

The Wisconsin National Guard is providing staff to perform the tests for all of these events. They encourage anyone 5 years or older who are experiencing the following symptoms to get tested:

  •  fever cough
  • runny nose or congestion
  • loss of taste/smell
  • shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • fatigue or extreme tiredness
  • body aches
  • diarrhea, vomiting or nausea
  • chills, shaking with chills
  • muscle aches.

The test is a nasal swab and only will test if you currently have COVID-19. It is not the antibody test that determines if you had COVID-19. Besides testing people with symptoms, they will allow testing of frontline workers without symptoms. Minors must also have a legal guardian accompany them for testing.
