I stumbled on a story about crop circles that showed up in a wheat field in Minnesota in 2008. These crop circles are intriguing. Who does them? Are they from UFOs? Pranksters?

The crop circles appeared in late July and early August in Fosston, Minnesota.

Fosston is a small town of about 1500 people in the Greater Grand Forks area. There were three homesteads with crop circles appearing with the sunrise within 10 miles of Fosston. The crop circles were symmetrical and evenly spaced with different symbols.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, a UPS driver was the first to notice one of the crop circles on Dean Sorgaard's place. He called up the mayor Jim Offerdahl and he came out to take a look.

The landowner Sorgaard said that at about 2 AM in the morning his cows started bawling and his dogs were going nuts. As you can see in the YouTube video, the crop circles were quite impressive.

Of course, the thought with crop circles has been that they are from alien spacecraft or microwave signals from space. However, in most cases, they turn out to be pranks. For example, in 1991 two men from England admitted that they were behind hundreds of crop circles.

Most people including the mayor assume it was an elaborate prank. The crop circles were nearby roads, so that means it would have been more accessible to someone driving.

What baffled locals though is that there were no rumors of anyone doing it. There was no trash or evidence left behind. If it was a hoax, it took an incredible amount of talent and discipline. In the 14 years since it still remains unsolved.

Another point to consider is the fact that the X-Files "I Want To Believe" movie came out that week. With a peak in UFO interest, perhaps some people were trying to time their prank just right.

If you want to know more about the Fosston Crop circles, you can read more about it in a report made by BLT Research. They sent out field investigators, gathered samples, and plants, and did scientific calculations to try to figure out if it was manmade. At first glance it appeared to be manmade, but there were still some questions that left investigators not 100% sure.

There also was a UFO sighting 27 hours before the crop circles were discovered. A man nearby was on a morning walk when he saw a beam of light shoot up to the sky and fade away. It was in the shape of a tube and it seemed to just shoot off and disappear in the sky. When the crop circles came out, he didn't even put two and two together. It was only later when questioned as a nearby witness did he share his story.
