One of the annual events of the summer season is happening July 13 through July 16 in downtown Duluth.  Those are the dates for the 2022 version of  the Downtown Sidewalk Days Festival and Street Dance.  Shoppers can expect a wide variety of merchants to have their items out on the sidewalk for easy shopping, a bunch of food and beverage vendors, classic cars, and the annual street dance.

In order to accommodate the activities, drivers will encounter a variety of street closures and traffic changes.  Here's what you need to know - direct from the City of Duluth.

Superior Street:  Will close to traffic from Lake Avenue to 5th Avenue West on July 13-15, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM each day.  No parking regulations will start in the downtown area at 7:00 AM each morning of the event; vehicles found in violation will be ticketed and towed.  All avenues in the area will remain open to traffic, except during the Classic Car Show.

Wednesday, July 13:  In preparation for the Classic Car Show, 2nd Avenue West, 3rd Avenue West, 4th Avenue West, 1st Avenue East, and 2nd Avenue East will be closed to traffic at Superior Street starting at 3:30 PM.  3rd Avenue East, Lake Avenue, 1st Avenue West, and 5th Avenue West will remain open to allow access to Michigan Street and 1st Street.  All closed streets will reopen to traffic by 9:00 PM.

Vehicles taking part in the Classic Car Show must enter the area from the intersection of Lake Avenue and Superior Street or at 1st Avenue West.  They're encouraged to arrive between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.  All Classic Car Show cars must exit the area by 8:30 PM.

On Friday, July 15, the 100 block of West First Street between First Avenue West and 2nd Avenue West will close to traffic for the Street Dance.  The closure will happen between 5:00 PM 12:00 Midnight.

On Saturday, July 16, the 100 block of West Superior Street between First Avenue West and 2nd Avenue West will close to traffic for the Street Dance.  The closure wull happen between 5:00 PM and 12:00 Midnight.

In general, there will be no parking signs posted throughout downtown Duluth to help facilitate the events and alert drivers.  These no parking zones will be in place to facilitate the events and to also allow DTA busses to get around street closures.  Again, vehicles parked in no parking zones - or, where there are no parking signs posted - will be ticketed and towed away.

Downtown Sidewalk Days Festival and Street Dance attendees are encouraged to utilize the city parking ramps as much as possible.

Meanwhile, the DTA is advising passengers about a number of changes needed to facilitate the sidewalk days events.  During the day - when Superior Street is closed, DTA buses will continue providing service to the Duluth Transportation Center (DTC) on Michigan Street.  Additionally, buses heading to points further west will also offer service along First Street between Lake Avenue and 5th Avenue West when Superior Street is closed.

During the Wednesday Night Car Show, all westbound buses will provide service along First Street between 3rd Avenue East and 5th Avenue West.  Eastbound buses will provide service along First Street from First Avenue West to 3rd Avenue East.

DTA bus service along Superior Street between Lake Avenue and 5th Avenue West will resume each evening once Superior Street is reopened.  At the same time, service along Superior Street between Lake Avenue and 3rd Avenue East will continue with the exception of Wednesday night's car show.
