The Duluth Police Department is welcoming a new K-9 team to the force.  They made the official announcement Thursday on their Facebook page:

Meet DPD's newest K9 team! K9 Athena is a Dutch Shepherd and is the half-sister of K9 Luna. Athena's handler is Officer Kaase who has been with the DPD for 6 years, first as a patrol officer and most recently as an HRA investigator with the COP Unit. Officer Kaase is fulfilling a longtime dream as he has wanted to be a K9 handler since he was a young kid. Officer Kaase and Athena start training soon and they'll come back specially trained to serve our community. Welcome to the team!
Thank you to AMSOIL Northland K9 Foundation for their donation to make this addition possible!

The Northland K-9 Foundation was founded in 2013 with a focused mission: "We exist to help dogs – the dogs that do so much for our communities, law enforcement agencies and officers. City and County governments are constantly tightening budgets and must find ways to do more with less. To ensure our valuable K-9 units receive the funding they need to operate and grow, financial support from the public is needed."
