The Duluth Salvation Army is looking for more volunteers to help ring bells across the Twin Ports. They currently have over 5,500 volunteer hours for the season, but they need to fill another 3,939 hours.

The Red Kettle season is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Salvation Army. Money goes to help support families in need in the Twin Ports area. They have seen an increase in community needs year after year, especially following the pandemic.

They have a heft goal of raising $215,000 with the Red Kettle drive. So far they have raised $8,504.05. With 31 kettle days remaining, they have to raise $206,495.50. The last day of bell ringing for the kettles will be on Christmas Eve, December 24.

You can help out by signing up for a 2,4, or 6-hour shift at registertoring.com. You can also call 218-722-7934.

There are 16 kettles across the Twin Ports. One likely is in your neighborhood.  10 of the kettles are inside in a heated location. Definitely sign up for those.

Last year was my first year ringing a bell for the Salvation Army, and I'll be sure to sign up again this year. It feels nice to volunteer and help out the community. It's also a great activity to do with your kids and teach them how important it is to volunteer to help the community.

Find out more information at the Salvation Army's website. It's easy to register!

This year they are also introducing the community kettle. When hours aren't filled by volunteers, the kettle will become a community kettle and be marked by a sign. Anyone who has a free minute is encouraged to ring the bell. Follow them on Facebook for more information.
