Duluth Winter Village Returns December 3 + 4 At The DECC
One of the surprise successes of the holiday season last year in the Twin Ports is back again this year. The Duluth Winter Village - a festive outdoor event designed to support local small businesses and let everyone have some fun - will happen Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, on Harbor Drive, which circles behind the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
The event runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days.
That the event grew and was such a success last year wasn't the surprise; rather, that it was a unique idea that seemed to come together at the right time. While the event started on the grounds of Glensheen back in 2016, the move to the area outside of the DECC - and closer to Canal Park, the lake, and Bentleyville helped.
According to details shared by the DECC, the Duluth Winter Village will have something literally for everyone. "More than 50 local businesses will be set up in festive wooden cabins and in Pioneer Hall with their curated goods for sale."
So what's different this year? Event organizers have planned to expand on what's worked in the past, while giving attendees something new to look forward to. Malley Moore, Duluth Winter Village President explains:
"We are so thrilled to be working with DECC staff again to build upon our wonderful first year on Harbor Drive. We are utilizing even more of the space and DECC facilities this tear by expanding into more indoor areas, increasing the outdoor shopping footprint, adding outdoor bars, activites, and attractions both days."
Here's a run down of some of the new activities planned for this year that weren't on the schedule before:
- Free indoor ice skating both afternoons (from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM) - with music from a live DJ
- Outdoor bars offering seasonal drinks; non-alcoholic will be available
- Live animals
- Expanded areas at the Yule Hall
- A 20-foot decorated tree
- Indoor heated areas from Duluth Mom - which will offer diaper changing areas and nursing spaces
The Duluth Winter Village is free to attend and the entire family is invited; regular parking fees at the DECC will be charged.
