Update: Duluth Cold Front Festival Postponed Again

A few days removed from the initial postponement announcement for the opening weekend of festivities, the organizers of the Duluth Cold Front Festival have announced a full postponement of the entirety of the event.

The original postponement (seen below) pushed the first few days of events to Valentine's Day weekend. The latest postponement moves activities to the end of the month, with the new schedule as follows:

• Yeti Hunt: Saturday/Sunday Feb. 20-21 and Saturday/Sunday Feb. 27-28
• Luminary Walk: Thursday February 18: 5-8 pm on the Lakewalk.
• Bae-Front Valentine’s Skate: Friday February 26 : 3-7 pm at the Bayfront ice rink.
• Snowshoe Pop Ups: Free opportunities to try snowshoeing at different parks and trailheads across town where you can check out snowshoes for free, explore the park or trail on your own, then return the equipment to on-site Parks staff. Locations will be announced ahead of each Pop-Up. Here are the upcoming dates:
  • Tuesday February 16: 3-5 pm
  • Wednesday February 24: 3-5 pm
  • Saturday February 27: 9-11 am
  • Sunday February 28: 11 am-2 pm
• Story Stroll led by the Duluth Public Library: Friday February 26: 10 am – 4 pm at Lincoln Park.

Update 2/4/21 4:40PM 

The City of Duluth has announced that due to the forecasted extreme cold temperatures, the Cold Front Festival will be postponed. They offered the information with updates to some of the events on their Duluth Parks Facebook page. The Yeti Hunt has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb 13. The Citywide snow building event has also been moved to Sunday, February 14.

 Duluth's Cold Front 2021 is coming soon to Bayfront Festival Park. This year will be a little different because of COVID-19 concerns, but they still have found creative ways to get outside and enjoy the Northland winter. There are multiple events activities that take place February 6-12. All of these events follow guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health.

On Saturday February 6 they start events with EDog Sledding with Silver Creek Sled Dogs. They have multiple time slots between 10-Noon, and 12:45-1:45pm. You need to sign up for the registration lottery, because this is such a popular event. You need to sign up by 4pm on February 2nd. They will then randomly select participants.

Also taking place on Saturday & Sunday is equipment rentals at Hartley Park. This is in coordination with the Hartley Nature Center and goes from 10-3:30. You can explore Hartley Park and rent equipment from the Hartley Nature Center. You should make an advanced registration.

On Sunday February 7 they will have the Yet Hunt. Follow Duluth Parks on Facebook and Instagram to get clues for where the yeti is in the park. Participants then take a photo of the Yeti and send it into the park to be entered into a drawing to win a prize. You can get more information on their social media sites.

There will be a cityside snow-building extravaganza taking place on Monday. People are asked to share photos of their creation on social media and use #ColdFront2021 to enter to win prizes. You can also share your creation on their Facebook page.

A Winter Wonderland Equipment Pop Up will happen from 3-7pm on Tuesday at Enger Park Golf Course. They'll have snowshoes, sleds, disc golf discs, and other items available.

A new program is featured on Wednesday also from 1-7pm. It's Agents of Discovery, a free app that brings GPS based adventures to local Duluth Parks. Staff will be on hand to help explain how it works. There will be a mission around Bayfront Park.

There's a luminary walk scheduled for Thursday from 5-8pm. Walk along a candle-lit path along the Lakewalk between Canal Park and Fitgers.

Finally, on Friday February 12 they will have the BAE-front Valentine's Skate from 3-7pm. There will be love songs playing on the sound system, Valentine's Day Craft, and a themed picture photo booth. They even have childcare available for parents/guardians from 5-7pm. You need to register ahead of time for this, and there is a cost of $5 per child.
