Ely, MN has seen a recent rise in COVID-19 confirmed cases. The Ely School District recently posted this information on their Facebook page, and also confirmed that they had three students test positive in two different schools. Both Washington Elementary, and the Ely Memorial High School have had cases. This had lead to three different groups needing to isolate and quarantine.

The school district is asking families of students to tighten their social circle and limit interactions with people outside of their family, work, school, or activity or sports practices.

Ely School District has been working with the Minnesota Department of Health to identify people who have had close contact with the confirmed cases. They've been in communication with those people. They are also asking every student to monitor themselves for any symptoms. If someone develops symptoms they should stay home and consult their doctor. While it should be common knowledge by now, once again those symptoms are fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscles aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

They have took action to sanitize the schools. They also would like the communities help in stopping the spread by wearing masks, social distancing, and staying home if you are ill.

Ely hopes to have spring activities like prom and graduation in the coming months, but recognize that if cases continue to rise that may not be possible. That's why they are reaching out to the community for everyone to do their part.
