ESPN Airing Korean Baseball Organization’s Live Games This Week

It's been a long time since any of us have seen live sports. We've been watching networks re-airing classic broadcasts of professional sports. The NBA draft was the most excitement we've seen since early March, and even the draft was pretty bizarre this year. For the first time in it's history it was done remotely and not with a huge event in Vegas.

Then news came yesterday there may be a way to see something 'live.' ESPN announced they would begin airing live baseball games starting this week. The catch is, it's games from the South Korean Baseball Organization (KBO). Will you be watching it? Probably. I have to be honest, I haven't been a follower of Korean baseball. However, in a time where we are grasping for any sense of normalcy, just having some type of baseball on TV in the background may be a good distraction. And, it's not like they're amateurs. Baseball in Asia is a serious thing, and some of our most talented players of the sport are from across the Pacific Ocean. Examples: Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui (the list goes on).

It's worth noting that most of these games are obviously live and that means they will be on while many of us are asleep. Thankfully we live in the digital age where we can record them and play them back at our leisure. It could also serve as a preview on what may happen when the MLB starts their season. There is speculation that there won't be any fans in the stands for the games while social distancing is still in place due to COVID-19.  That's what the KBO is doing with their games that are now being broadcast on ESPN.
