Wes Anderson’s whimsical Fantastic Mr. Fox turns 10 today. Based on the 1970 Roald Dahl children’s novel of the same name, Fantastic Mr. Fox combines gorgeous stop-motion animation with sharp wit to create a beloved animated classic. George Clooney and Meryl Streep are delightful as Mr. and Mrs. Fox, and would it even be a Wes Anderson film without Jason Schwartzman playing their little fox son?

The movie was released by 20th Century Fox in 2009 and received loads of critical praise, featured in Times 2011 list of Best Animated Films. It currently holds a 92 percent on aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2010 Academy Awards.

Fantastic Mr. Fox follows a family of foxes whose idyllic lifestyle becomes endangered when three wealthy farmers seek revenge on Mr. Fox, who has been thieving from them simply for the thrill of it. It’s chock full of colorful characters and mile-a-minute dialogue, thanks to Noah Baumbach, who co-wrote the screenplay with Anderson. Kids love the adorable woodland critters, adults love the tongue-in-cheek jokes that go right over the kids’ heads. Picky film school students can appreciate the shot compositions and flawless color palette. Truly, there’s something for everyone. And with a running time of only 88 minutes, Fantastic Mr. Fox is the perfect movie to pop on after stuffing yourself with turkey at Thanksgiving dinner.
