Gov. Walz Announcement Impact: Wild, Twins Ready To Welcome Fans
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz made a major announcement Friday regarding COVID-19 restrictions within the state. Minnesota is increasing capacity limits for bars, restaurants and venues, and both the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Twins were quick to respond.
The Minnesota Wild season is already in progress and the team announced that beginning Monday, April 5, they will be able to welcome a maximum of 3,000 fans to Xcel Energy Center. That night, the Wild host the Colorado Avalanche at 7:00 p.m.
Minnesota Wild season ticket members will be given priority to purchase tickets to the upcoming games and the team says those fans will soon be contacted directly. While single-game tickets will not be readily available to the general public, fans are encouraged to check for ticket updates at Wild.com.
“We can’t wait to welcome more fans to watch Minnesota Wild games at Xcel Energy Center starting April 5,” said Minnesota Wild President Matt Majka. “Our organization has spent a tremendous amount of time and energy working in collaboration with Governor Walz and his staff, the Minnesota Department of Health as well as the other professional sports teams in town to make sure the protocols we have in place will allow our passionate fans the ability to watch Wild games in a safe and enjoyable manner. We have truly missed the energy and excitement our fans bring to Xcel Energy Center.”
The Minnesota Twins were also encouraged by Friday's news and the team was quick to issue a statement regarding fans at Target Field for the upcoming season:
“The Minnesota Twins organization is thrilled that the new state guidelines announced today by Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) pave the way for the safe return of our fans to Target Field for the upcoming 2021 season, beginning with our April 8 home opener.
“Our singular focus remains on the health, safety and well-being of every person that enters Target Field; to that end, we are currently reviewing the new guidance to ensure our comprehensive re-opening plan adheres to all MDH and Minneapolis Health Department directives. We will announce next steps, including our full ballpark protocols and ticket plans, in the very near future.
“We appreciate the continued partnership and dialogue with Governor Walz, MDH and City of Minneapolis officials throughout this process, and cannot wait to safely welcome Major League Baseball’s best fans back into Target Field. Win Twins!”
While no details were given on how fans would secure tickets for Twins games, it would be safe to assume that season ticket holders will be given first priority. However, the Twins will be allowed to have 10,000 fans at their games at Target Field, which hopefully provides some opportunities to purchase single-game tickets.
The Minnesota Vikings are also excited to welcome fans back to U.S. Bank Stadium this fall. You can click here to read what they had to say.
