The Packers have opted to shore up their running game in a move confirmed over the weekend.

Green Bay announced over the weekend they had signed 29 year-old running back Cedric Benson to join James Starks and bolster the run game for an otherwise pass-happy Packers offense. Benson was drafted number 4 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft, and also played with the Cincinnati Bengals prior to finding his way to Green Bay.

Benson, who has had multiple 1,000+ yard seasons, will look to improve the Packers from 27th in the league in rushing. Running the ball and holes on defense proved to be the major flaws of the 2011 Packers, so adding someone like Benson should be a considerable upgrade to one of the few problem spots for Green Bay.
