The first major snowstorm of the 2021-2022 winter season made its way through the Northland over the weekend, leaving some large amounts of snow across parts of the region. The picture of what has been left behind is becoming more clear with another round of updates from the National Weather Service midday Monday (seen below).

As often happens with winter storms, after the snow moves out, a burst of cold has followed, giving many towns across the region single-digit temperatures and wind chill values below zero. We will see a slow warming trend later into the week, but a taste of "real" winter temperatures are here for a bit.

So, how much did the area get? There is a pretty wide range across the region, but the top spot (near Grand Marais, MN) got nearly two feet of snow! This beats out the previously recorded high-mark of Finland, MN with 16 inches.
