It's that time of the year once again, when boys high school hockey state tournament championship dreams can be realized.  Hermantown and Grand Rapids will be representing the Northland and their first games are set.

The MSHSL has announced that the Hermantown Hawks will enter the Class A tournament as the top seed, while the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks has earned the 4 seed in the Class AA tournament.

Hermantown will begin the tournament Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. as they take on unseeded Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at Xcel Energy Center.  According to the MSHSL, Hermantown has qualified for the tournament for the seventh consecutive season and 13th time overall. The Hawks have been runner-up in the small-school class for the past six consecutive seasons. Hermantown claimed a Class A championship in 2007.

The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks begin play on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. as they battle #5 Bemidji at Xcel Energy Center.  The two teams played back in November and skated to a 1-1 tie.  This should be a good matchup, but it's unfortunate that the teams play each other early which puts the Twin Cities in a great position to have a representative in the finals.

You can see the tournament brackets below.  Good luck to the Hawks and Thunderhawks!
