If you need more evidence that October has been a bit of a rollercoaster in terms of the weather, here you go!

According to WDIO, a few areas across the Northland saw record low high temperatures over the weekend. On Sunday (October 25th), a few areas were colder than they had been on that day in years past. This isn't too surprising considering winter has been here in the Northland since early October but that doesn't mean we won't complain about it a little. Ha!

October 2020, in true 2020 fashion, has brought about an early winter. We saw our first moderate snowfall of the winter season in the middle of the month, with up to six inches of snow in the Duluth area. This brought about hundreds of spinouts and crashes across the state of Minnesota. This snowfall also helped put October of 2020 on the map as one of the snowiest Octobers in Duluth on record.

This is just the beginning of what will likely be an intense winter. Thanks to a La Niña weather pattern, the midwest, including the Northland, is expected to see frequent cold snaps and arctic outbreaks. Forecasters are also predicting more snow than usual. As if that isn't spooky enough, it is also likely that we will see the weather pattern lingering later into the year than usual.

I guess the Old Farmer's Almanac was a little bit off with their predictions for the month of November. They were predicting it is when we would see our first snowfall in Duluth and clearly, that did not happen. If only!
