I'm pretty passionate about pickles. I really like a good, crisp pickle. I won't even be bothered with a soggy, mushy pickle. Life is too short for that. If I find a good pickle, I feel the need to share it with other people. Boy, did I find a pickle jackpot this last weekend!

A group of us went to the Arrowhead Ice Fishing & Winter Show at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC). We made our normal stops around the place. One of the highlights has always been making a stop at the Jerky Guy after we grab a drink at the concession. Maybe we'll even have a porketta sandwich if the mood strikes us.

We turned a corner at one point and stumbled on an exhibitor that had tubs of pickles. To the right of the pickles they had a bunch of cheeses and meats. Before I really knew what was going on, I was shoving samples in my face. We had some venison and wild boar, hickory-smoked wild boar, and a bunch of specialty sausage samples. They were fantastic and we just started buying stuff. It happened so fast. Then we asked for some pickle samples.

Oh My God. The pickles were the best I've ever had. I tried first and Old World Bay pickle that was crisp and spicy. It really had some heat to it! Next, I had to try the extra garlic dill pickles. Those were so good that I bought a quart. We spent $70 at this place because it was so good. We even thanked them on the way out!

I got home and immediately regretted not getting more pickles. We now have to ration what we have left because everyone is eating them up. Until now my favorite pickle has been the extra hearty garlic pickle from Claussen. I've always said Claussen has the best pickles by far. They are still my favorite national brand, but these new pickles are a special treat.

I couldn't remember the name of the place where I got the pickles, so I went back and searched online at the exhibitor list. The name of the place is Five Star Pickles & Sausage. They go to home shows and sport shows across the country. They sell their products online, too. I've already got another order on the way. It's not cheap. You'll have to pay about $15 for a quart of pickles. But let me tell you, once you try it you'll be hooked.
