The world's largest charitable ice fishing tournament is held on Gull Lake in Minnesota and this year they've booked a very popular special guest to help kick off the 2024 festivities.

The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza is a massive volunteer-run event that draws 10,000 anglers annually. It takes three days to set up the event site which becomes the second largest city in Crow Wing County on the day of the event.

There are approximately 20,000 holes pre-drilled for the anglers to choose from and they all compete for more than $150,000 in prizes. Organizers say there are nearly 200 prizes ranging from a new Ford 4x4 pickup to Polaris ATVs to Ice Castle Fish Houses and a number of other ice fishing-related prizes. Impressively, not one prize is worth less than $250 in value.

The best part is that all of the proceeds are donated to area non-profit organizations with Confidence Learning Center, an outdoor center for persons with developmental disabilities, being the primary beneficiary.

The 2024 Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza is set for Saturday, February 3 and organizers announced Tuesday that Charlie Berens will perform at the Kick-Off Party, which is held the night before.

The comedian, New York Times Best Selling Author, Emmy-winning journalist, musician, and creator of the Manitowoc Minute, is bringing his Good Old Fashioned Tour to Brainerd's Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts, located at 602 South 5th Street.
