Jimmy’s Saloon Calls Off Ice Fishing Tournament Amid Melting Ice
Jimmy's Saloon in Superior has made the decision to cancel its annual Crappie Ice Fishing Tournament. The bar, located in Billings, Park in Superior, Wisconsin, has been holding the ice fishing tournament for years.
They made the choice to cancel the tournament, posting on social media about the warm temperatures.
Unseasonably warm temperatures with highs near 60 have created unsafe conditions on the St. Louis River, where the tournament is held. Kimball's Bay has been the location for years, but with the melting ice, it's just not safe.

Temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees on Friday and again on Saturday. Highs on Sunday are expected to surpass 50 degrees.
Jimmy's goes on in its post to suggest possibly moving up the tournament to earlier in the winter. Judging by the last few mild springs we've had, I think that's a good plan, especially with the ice storms we've been facing. Hasn't it seemed like our winters are becoming icier in the Twin Ports?
Just last year at this time, a four-wheeler broke through the ice, killing a Superior man on Kimball's Bay.
If you do plan to go ice fishing this weekend, be very careful. Check ice depths often, and bring ice picks with you in case you do fall through the ice. Remember, the permanent ice shelters removal date already happened last week for the MN-WI border waters.
In the post, Jimmy's says to stop by anyway and share the fishing stories of what you could have caught. Love that!
