What Does A Silver Alert Mean In Minnesota + Wisconsin?
I was driving into work today when I saw the road sign on Highway 53/2 in Superior that said Silver Alert, call 511 for info.
I honestly had no idea what a silver alert was. Did it have to do with weather and road conditions? Is it something like an amber alert?
What is a silver alert?
I got to work and looked it up and found out that it is like an amber alert, but instead of children who are in danger, it's for senior citizens who are missing.
According to the Minnesota Legislature, a silver alert is issued to aid in the recovery of missing persons who are senior citizens with dementia, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's disease, or other mental disabilities.
Silver Alert issued for missing Minnesota man believed to be in Douglas County.
86-year-old Gerald Knapp is missing from Askov, Minnesota. He was last seen on January 28, 2024 at 10 am. Authorities believe he is somewhere in the Douglas County area.
Gerald is driving a 2020 Ford Escape with Minnesota License plate FVP429. Gerald is a white male, 5 foot 5 inches, 160 pounds, with blue eyes, and white hair. If anyone has information, you should contact the Pine County Sheriff's Office at 320-629-8380.
It's believed that Gerald Knapp could be in North Eastern Pine County or South Western Douglas County. He is suffering from dementia, and his destination was unknown.
Silver Alerts are unfortunately more common than you think.
There already have been a dozen silver alerts issued in Wisconsin in the last month throughout the state.
