Duluth Police Issue Traffic Advisory Ahead Of Park Point 5-Miler Race
The 2024 Park Point 5-Miler race is set for Thursday evening, with race organizers preparing for a race with a capacity of up to 800 participants along a course on Duluth's Park Point.
The annual "midsummer night's race" is a Young Athletes Foundation event, which is a program operated by Grandma's Marathon.
The out-and-back style 5-mile run and 2-mile walk event starts and ends in front of the Park Point Beach House Pavilion near the end of the road that travels out onto Duluth’s Park Point. The course brings participants along Minnesota Avenue for a distance before turning them back to the start/finish line.
With the weather sounding like it will be pleasant and very summerlike for Thursday, both participants for this event and other members of the public looking to enjoy summertime on Park Point will need to be aware of some traffic impacts.

In anticipation of this year's event, the Duluth Police Department issued a traffic advisory highlighting impacts to motorists and visitors to Park Point.
The race will begin at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening (July 18), with runners traveling north (in the direction of the Aerial Lift Bridge) before turning around near 23rd Street. Walkers will follow a shorter version of that same route.
Park Point 5-Miler impacts to be aware of
The Duluth Police Department is letting the public know that parking lots near the end of Park Point will close to traffic from 6 pm until approximately 9 pm.
Drivers looking to travel down Park Point will be stopped at 23rd Street and anyone already on Park Point will be held there starting at 6 pm, until around 7:30 pm.
Duluth Police warn that motorists heading out to Park Point or looking to leave from Park Point during this approximately 90-minute timeframe should be prepared for those delays and be aware of runners on the roadway as well as police officers directing traffic in the area of the route.
