City Of Duluth’s 2026 ‘Name A Snowplow’ Contest Needs Your Name Ideas

I'm still doing my best to enjoy fall in the Northland, but we all know what's next.

The snow and cold of winter are just around the corner, and as the City of Duluth prepares its plow trucks for the upcoming season, they're once again looking for your suggestions for a new name for one of their trucks.

The City of Duluth just announced the launch of their third annual Name a Snowplow contest, asking residents to get clever, creative, and maybe even a little funny to come up with a winning name for this year's contest.

Starting today, the City of Duluth is welcoming your name submissions for the contest. The submission window runs from Friday, October 9 through Friday, October 23.

Any Duluth resident can submit a name suggestion for a truck in the City of Duluth's fleet, with the person submitting the winning name getting a little prize package for coming up with the best name of the heap of submissions.

What are the rules for name submissions and the rest of the Name a Snowplow contest?

As you craft your creative name, know that there are a few rules you'll need to follow.

The name has to be under 25 characters, no more than 3 words in length.

The name has to be appropriate (no swears or other inappropriate phrases). The name submission should also not include any sort of politically-themed messaging; it cannot include a person's name, and can't include copyrighted or trademarked things like movie titles, brand names, etc.

If multiple people happen to submit the same name idea, only the first submission will be used in the final voting.

After the name submission window closes on October 23, the City of Duluth will review submissions, narrow it down to 10 finalists, and publish them for a public vote from October 28 until November 6.

The winning name will make its debut on a truck in the Christmas City of the North parade on November 20.

What is the prize for submitting the winning name?

The prize for this year's contest is more about the fun of it all than an actual, tangible prize.

Just like in years past, the person who submits the winning name will get to take a photo with the newly-named plow truck and its crew, get to ride in the truck for the Christmas City of the North Parade, and (of course) unlimited bragging rights. Go ahead and let your friends and neighbors know you had the best name of the bunch!
