A scary moment was caught on camera as a motorist ignored a school bus stop sign and nearly hit kids who were getting off the bus.

The incident happened on December 21st just after 3 PM on Couty Road 41 in Willow River, a school bus had stopped to drop some kids off to some waiting parents when a pickup truck went around stopped traffic and drove by at a high rate of speed just missing the two kids getting off the bus.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office is actively looking for the driver of the 1994 red Ford Ranger truck with Minnesota license plates 116 KPL.

In the video, you can see one kid crossing the road and the second kid hurries to make it across the road as the speeding truck is hurtling toward him. Thankfully both kids made it across the road without incident. The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety says that in 2020, there was one fatality involving a school bus and 2,773 traffic crashes involving school buses from 2016 to 2020. Minnesota state law requires all vehicles to stop for school buses when the bus driver activates the flashing lights and has the crossing arm fully extended, drivers can face a $500 fine and can face criminal charges for passing a bus on the right, passing when a child is outside the bus, or injuring or killing a child.
