Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police have arrested a man accused of using a hatchet to threaten another man in Rochester early Tuesday morning.

That’s according to Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson. Officers responded to the threat report shortly before 12:30 a.m. 

The victim, described as a 22-year-old man, told police he was explaining facility rules at a transitional housing facility at 105 Broadway Ave. North to 33-year-old Damien Newman of Rochester

Grayson said the man reported Newman threatened him with what he described as a bladed weapon during the conversation.

Officers later found Newman walking north of the housing facility at the intersection of North Broadway and 7th St. North. He had a small hatchet in his pocket at the time of his arrest, the police report says.

Newman was booked into the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center shortly before 1:00 Tuesday morning, according to Olmsted County Jail records

Grayson says he could face charges of assault and threats of violence.
